Insects4Feed is a partnership by Dutch and Nigerian business and institutions [New Generation Nutrition, Single Spark BV, ProEnto, Nigerian Breweries, Quality Insect for Feed and Food Association of Nigeria [QIFFAN], University of Ibadan and IITA Business Incubation Platform limited] that aims to address the growing need for a local, sustainable and affordable animal protein source for the fish and poultry feed industry in Nigeria.

To develop sustainable business models with insects through research and education.
To create decent jobs in insect rearing/the insect value chain and economic growth by increased productivity in the poultry and aquaculture value chain.

Provide a locally produced insect meal as a feed ingredient and an alternative to imported fishmeal, in this way we contribute to biodiversity in oceans and marine ecosystems.

Efficient use of organic waste as feed for insects: reducing environmental impact while generating revenues from organic waste sources.

Impact Clusters are collaboration modules that form part of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO)’s PSD Apps programme. It is designed by the Dutch Government to provide multi-annual support to groups of businesses (and knowledge institutions/NGOs) that see specific opportunities in a market/sector combination and that can contribute to local development in one or more of the countries on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ PSD country list.

The insect impact cluster is therefore a ‘vehicle’ that has mostly the potential to foster Netherlands and Nigerian collaboration in promoting circular agricultural solutions to the animal feed industry.

Activities of the project

The main programme activities to boost the Nigerian instect production sector are divided into five horizons. Each focusing on a specific part of the ecosystem that will be built to support the sector.
